22nd Mission Project Timeline and Information

22nd Mission Project
2014

You have been working very hard to learn about California’s Mission System.  Now it’s time to finish our study of the missions with a culminating project.  You will have two options to choose from.
Mission Project Timeline:
·         Friday, January 10th: “Good Place” questions and “Need to Know” notes are due (These are worth 10 points each)
·         Monday, January 13th: Mission Building/Poster begins in class!  Please make sure to have all needed supplies brought to class on, or before, this day!
·         Wednesday, January 15th: Map due with location clearly labeled (5 points)
·         Friday, January 17th: Final written proposal due to Archbishop Fonte is due (See attached rubric for point value)
·         Thursday, January 23rd: Mission Project must be completed by the end of today (See attached rubric for point value)
·         Friday, January 31st: “My Mission Research Book” is due.  This does not need to be colored. (This is worth 15 points)
Option #1: Build a Mini Replica of the 22nd Mission
·         The base of the project must be sturdy cardboard or foam board and must measure 16” x 20.”  Please do not use poster board because it will not be firm enough.
·         Whole kits may not be used.
·         Suggested materials for building include but are not limited to: clay, small boxes, card board, wood, Styrofoam, lasagna noodles, and sugar cubes.
·         Other materials to consider are: beans, seeds, small twigs and branches, tiny silk flowers, noodles, corn, moss, bells, or toothpicks.
·         You may add other store bought items such as: bushes, trees, bells, fountains, figures of animals or people, and ground coverings.
·         A large bottle of Tacky Glue would be helpful!  (Any other strong glue is OK too as long as it does not have a strong scent…..no Crazy Glue please!)
·         The name of the mission MUST be displayed somewhere on the mission grounds.
·         Different parts of the missions MUST be labeled.  (Church, kitchen, etc.)
·         Use pictures of the other 21 missions as inspiration.

Option #2: Draw a Detailed Plan/Layout of the 22nd Mission

·         The plan must be on a light colored, standard poster board that measures 22” x 28.”
·         It must contain a drawing of how the land will be used from the overhead point of view.
·         The name of the mission MUST be displayed somewhere prominent on the poster.
·         Different parts of the missions MUST be labeled.  (Church, kitchen, etc.)
·         The more detail the better!
·         Use pictures and layouts of the other 21 missions as inspiration.
